Barack Obama was the projected winner of the Democratic race, having secured 58% of the vote to Clinton's 41%. John McCain won the Republican contest with 55% of the vote. While no viable third candidate emerged for the Democrats, Republican Ron Paul made an impact by taking 5% of the vote away from McCain and Mike Huckabee.1
