Buffalo Grove is a village seated in both Lane and Cook counties of Illinois, named for nearby Buffalo Creek. It is located 35 miles north of downtown Chicago, spanning over almost 7,202 acres.

History

The village of Buffalo Grove became open for settlement in 1833, after the Treaty of Chicago. It had developed into a small community by 1840. In 1958, Buffalo Grove became known as a village with a population of 164. Many of the streets and parks throughout the village are named after the pioneers who founded it.

Contaminated Water

On March 14, 2008, Buffalo Grove residents were urged to begin boiling all water they consume because "fecal coliform bacteria" was found in the water supply after routine testing. By March 16, 2008, officials rescinded the order due to testing coming back with negative results for the bacteria.
