Venice
Venice is an Italian city known as the "City of Water" and "The City of Light;" it is located in a lagoon and is comprised of over 100 islands connected by more than 400 bridges. Its 150 canals create a system of water roads throughout the city, and in some parts the only ways to get around are by walking or via boat.
Famous for festivals such as the Carnival of Venice and the Venice Film Festival, main attractions such as St. Mark's Basilica church and Piazza San Marco are very popular among tourists.
Traveling through Venice usually consists of a boat ride, whether it be on the traditional gondola or vaporetti (water buses). The city has actually been slowly sinking for a number of years (though some claim the sinking has stopped), and many areas are regularly threatened by small floods.
