Just before dawn on June 1, 2008 a fire broke out at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California. The fire destroyed five buildings and a soundstage. One explosion was reported.

Firefighters are working hard to contain the fire so it doesn't spread to nearby brush. Three of them were injured tackling the blaze.

Officials from Universal said the theme park and Universal CityWalk would still open for business from noon to 6 p.m.

Firefighters had trouble putting out the fire. The water pressure is was not strong, and is possibly made the situation a little bit worse.

Two water tank trucks were called to the scene to assist in putting out the fire.

Firefighters also had to pump water from man made ponds. One of these ponds is home to the Jaws attraction.

The fire was accidentally caused by a blowtorch that was used by workers to work on the roof of a set. They heated the asphalt shingles to apply the roof, then waited for an hour before taking a break.

A security guard spotted the fire at 4:43 a.m and then reported it.
