Guide Note

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is an extreme sports video game. It is the second installment in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. The game features multi-time X-Games champion Tony Hawk and 12 other professional skateboarders as they ride through several stages trying to accomplish different tasks.

Regular gameplay

The ultimate goal in the game is to compete in all of the Competitions and win first place. However, to reach the competition levels, players must pass tasks in the regular stages. At each non-Competition stage, a player is asked to perform at least 10 tasks within a span of 2 minutes. Among the tasks:

• SKATE: The letters S-K-A-T-E are scattered throughout a stage.
• High score: Many stages have three tiers of scores that a player must accomplish.
• Tape: A tape is hidden within a stage, and the player must find it to complete the task.

Competition gameplay

During the competition levels, players compete in a stage three times (in the 2-minute format) trying to score as much as possible without bailing. After every round, players are given scores by judges, with the highest and lowest thrown out. The two best rounds count toward the final score. The judging is said to be based on style, types of tricks performed and the amount of bails; however, the game only takes into account the final score.

New features

For the first time in the series, the game featured the Manual. By performing a Manual, it allowed a player to link multiple grind moves together without having to stay on a rail or bump the whole time. A Manual could be performed without the need of jumping. A meter would appear, and the player had to keep the meter toward the center to keep the skater balanced on the skateboard. If the meter goes to the top or the bottom, the skater would bail.
