Johnson debuted as "Rocky Miavia" at the 1996 Survivor Series pay-per-view for the WWE. His charismatic, comedic arrogance on the microphone led to a quick name change the following year to "The Rock."

A fan favorite for the majority of his professional wrestling career, The Rock won the WWE Championship a record-setting seven times, feuding with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle and Vince McMahon from 1997 to 2003.

As his film career took off, Johnson retired from in-ring action in 2004. His last match to date was at WrestleMania XX

Following a very successful stint as host of Saturday Night Live in 2000, Johnson was cast as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns. The success of the sequel earned Johnson his first lead role in the franchise prequel, The Scorpion King. Johnson was reportedly paid $5.5 million for the part, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the highest salary for a first starring role.

Johnson has since appeared in The Rundown, Walking Tall and Be Cool--all of which grossed over $40 million at the box office. In 2007, Johnson's success continued with the children's film The Game Plan, which took in $110 million. The following year, Johnson starred alongside Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in Get Smart.
