The International Atomic Energy Agency

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is an organization that promotes the peaceful proliferation of nuclear technology and facilitates nuclear disarmament.

Founded in 1957 as an autonomous organization independent of the United Nations, the IAEA now reports to the General Assembly and the Security Council.

The IAEA, and Director General Mohamed ElBaradei, were awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

On May 26, 2008, the IAEA issued a report of its investigations into the nuclear program of Iran. The report stated that the program in Iran remains a mater of "serious concern" and accused the nation of willful lack of cooperation with investigations.
