Sweating is the bodies natural way of cooling itself. When you sweat, it mainly occurs under your arms, your feet and your palms. When the moisture from the sweat evaporates it cools the skin helping maintain body temperature. When your temperature rises above 98.6 degrees your brain sends the signal to your body telling it to sweat.

Sweating can also be caused by stress and nervousness. Many illnesses also produce sweating as a symptom. When you have excessive sweating it is known as hyperhidrosis. Nausea often produces sweating. Sweating is also common with fever. Women going through menopause will also have bouts of sweating.

When sweat mixes with bacteria it can cause body oder. Regular bathing and the use of over the counter antiperspirants or deodorants can help in controlling the odor. In some cases where over the counter products don't work a doctor might prescribe a prescription antiperspirant.
