The animated cartoon series Looney Tunes, from the Warner Brothers Studios, featured a character called Sylvester the Cat. Voiced by the American actor and comedian Mel Blanc, Sylvester was known for a slobbery lisp in his speech. To emphasize the lisp, the character was often written to say as many words as possible with the letter s. "Sufferin' Succotash" became one of Sylvester's trademark sayings.
