Sophia Garcia

Sophia Garcia was found dead in her home on Monday, April 21, 2008. Garcia was found with a plastic bag over her head. A medical examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head, declaring the death as a homicide.

Missing children

Garcia has three children. Oscar Casanova, age six, Karla Casanova, age seven, and Fernando Casanova, age 11, have been missing since Friday, April 18, 2008. An Amber Alert was issued after Garcia's body was found.

Benito Casanova

The children are believed to be with there father, Benito Casanova. After he threatened to kill her in July of 2006, Garcia was granted an order of protection from him. When she failed to appear at a court date a month later, the order was lifted. In February 2007, Garcia was granted another protection order against Casanova. The order was in effect until March of 2009. In a court statement written by Garcia, she describes in full detail how Casanova choked her and threatened to kill her on Valentines Day of 2007.
