Guide Note: Prolific romance/fantasy author Sherrilyn Kenyon published her first book whens she was seven years old. She published and illustrated it herself, an indication that very early in her life she knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up.

Despite knowing deep down that she wanted to be a writer, she went to college for art and wound up with a doctorate degree in history. She published quite a few non-fiction articles early on, but when her older brother passed away she lost her will to write and put it behind her for three years. It wasn't until she renewed her relationship with the man who would one day become her husband that she would find it inside herself to write again.

Once she began writing, she had a number of early successes, but they were short-lived, and once her contract expired she found herself at a dark crossroads with her writing. The hardships of not being able to publish coupled with her first difficult pregnancy was so hard on her small family that they literally lost everything. She struggled through, and eventually found a publisher for a book she had written, and very soon after that, her famous Dark Hunter Series was born.

Kenyon has admitted in several interviews that it often only takes her about a month or so to finish the first draft of a novel, however she has been known to take even less time to complete a novel. She has published more than sixty novels and novellas during her career.
