Secret of Mana

Secret of Mana is an action role-playing game for the SNES developed and published by Square.

Story

The hero is banished from his village after mistakenly taking out sword in a stone. It turns out that this sword is the sword of mana! Once the sword is removed, monsters are released into the world, and the hero must now embark on a quest to rid the village of monsters, form powerful allies, defeat an evil empire (known only as The Empire), and inevitably save the day.

Gameplay

All combat is done with the use of the Active Time Bar. Although the battles are in 'real-time', you must wait for the bar to fill up before you can attack. You are also joined by a sprite that offers offensive magic and a girl who is skilled in both magic and combat. The spell system, though simplistic, works out well as the more you use certain spells the stronger they get. You can switch to any of the characters during the game. Or you can also choose the multi-player option and play with up to two other people.
