Saturday Night Live is a very successful, Emmy award winning comedy/variety show that airs live every Saturday night on NBC. The show runs for 90 minutes and often features a celebrity guest host. Since its debut in the 1970's, the show has done many classic comedy sketches and launched the careers of many famous comedians, such as Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell.

History:

Lorne Michaels had the idea for the show in 1974. He wanted to make something for the Baby boomer generation, a show that would be more edgy and experimental. Network directors doubted its potential thinking that the show was too experimental for the demographics.

Saturday Night Live first aired October 11, 1975, it was called NBC's Saturday Night. ABC had a Saturday Night Live that year but canceled in 1976, after which NBC changed the show to Saturday Night Live.
