Samuel Alito is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Alito was appointed by President George W. Bush and assumed office on January 31, 2006, taking renowned "swing vote" Sandra Day O'Connor's seat on the court. Since Alito took his place on the Roberts Court, The U.S. Supreme Court has shifted to the right, voting more conservatively on an array of issues. This is due in part to Alito's influence on the court and the fact that he took O'Connor's seat.
