What are Ballet Flats?

Derived from ballet slippers, the flats are very thin leather soled shoes with no heel and have a rounded toe. They come in leather, snake skin, as well as non-animal made materials. The first pair made their mark in the 16th century but were soon replaced by high heeled shoes. It wasn't until 1957 that Audrey Hepburn made a comeback of the ballet flat in the film Funny Face.
