Salt Lake City is the capitol of the state of Utah, as well as its most populous city. With a metropolitan area of just over 1 million, Salt Lake City is the largest urban area in the state and the hub of most major commerce. Taking its name from the Great Salt Lake that is close by, the city is located on the front of the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges. Founded by Brigham Young in 1847, the city is home to the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and boasts one of the largest Mormon populations in the world. Salt Lake City was also home to the 2002 Winter Olympics.
