S.League

The S.League, or Singapore League, was formed from a dispute within the Football Association of Malayasian. Disputes over gate receipts and other financial problems caused the owners to form the new league based in Singapore.

Opening Season

The S.League began play in 1996 with eight clubs:

1. Balestier Central FC
2. Geylang United FC
3. Police FC
4. Sembawang Rangers FC
5. Singapore Armed Forces FC
6. Tampines Rovers FC
7. Tiong Bahru United FC
8. Woodlands Wellington FC.
