Guide Note

Prince is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer and performer whose career has spanned over three decades and produced scores of hit songs and albums. Prince got his start playing in the Minneapolis club scene and eventually moved on to writing, recording and producing his own records. After a string of hits during the 1980s, including "Little Red Corvette", "1999" and "Delirious", Prince ventured into acting with the 1984 movie Purple Rain. The soundtrack the movie became Prince's biggest hit and won him an Academy Award for "Best Original Song Score." While Prince has gone through a number of name changes over the years (from "Prince" to "The Unpronounceable Symbol" to "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" and back to "Prince") - due to a legal dispute with Warner Bros. Records, he has continued to write, record and perform.
