Pretty in Pink
Written by John Hughes, Pretty in Pink is a 1986 teen drama starring Molly Ringwald as Andie Walsh, a hip girl from the wrong side of the tracks who falls in love with rich kid Blaine. When Andie and Blaine try to date, they attract the attention of their respective social circles, who pressure them to stay away from one another. The film culminates at the prom.
The film's soundtrack, which spawned several chart-topping singles, included tracks by The Psychedelic Furs, New Order, OMD, The Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen and Suzanne Vega.
The film's character Duckie, an eccentric hipster who has an unrequited crush on Andie, is often referred to in contemporary TV shows, comics and movies. Some viewers feel that Andie should have ended up with Duckie and not Blaine.
