Playing cards are used for a variety of card games often related to gambling. The average playing card size is 2½ inches × 3½ inches with two distinct sides. A standard deck has 52 playing cards divided into four suits and 13 ranks. Other common uses include magic tricks and board games.

Highest quality playing cards available are made of 100% plastic. They can be very durable, do not warp when wet and can be wiped clean if they get dirty. Plastic cards cost $6-$10 a deck.

Cardboard decks are much cheaper starting at a dollar a deck. These will warp when wet and will wear down quickly with use. They are sufficient, however, for casual use.
