Plaxico Burress Suspended
New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was suspended for two weeks by the team on September 24, 2008. The Giants refused to elaborate on the reasoning, although the suspension was reportedly given after Burress failed to attend a Giants practice session and ignored phone calls.1 The suspension was later reduced to lessen the amount of pay withheld, while still keeping Burress out of the October 5, 2008, game.2

Appeal
According to Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Burress had "had some responsibilities he had to take care of as it relates to his family." Rosenhaus stated that Burress understands that he violated team rules, but does not feel that the infraction is "tantamount" to to two week suspension.3
More Charges?
Although Burress appealed the suspension and a settlement was later awarded, the receiver could face additional charges in violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy. Buress allegedly failed to report two incidents during the summer of 2008 when his wife, Tiffany Burress, filed for restraining orders against him.4
