Passat Recall

Guide Note: Volkswagen is voluntarily recalling over 400,000 vehicles from its Passat line due to potential mechanical failures. Affected are Passats manufactured between 1999 and 2005.
Three different issues are being addressed with this recall. Heat shields will be inspected on all models with gasoline engines and automatic transmissions to prevent possible exhaust system damange. Secondly, Passats with a 1.8-liter engine will have the fuel line inspected. Lastly, fuel tank ventilation valves will be checked on all models with 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Official notices will be sent out to Passat owners on May 30, 2008, however drivers are encouraged to visit a Volkswagen dealership if the smell of fuel is present.
