History
In the 2003 invasion of Iraq, 5000 toughbooks were dispatched with US troops, and the line has become the industry standard in rugged laptops. A range of models are built to withstand falls, extreme temperatures, small particles, water, high altitudes and other hazards. Protective features include magnesium alloy casing (rather than the standard plastics), steel reinforcements, shock-resistant hard drives and vibration-resistant LCDs.
