Otis Redding
Otis Redding is considered to be one of the greatest American soul singers.
Between 1962 and 1967 Redding charted hit after hit. Songs like "These Arms of Mine", "I've Been Loving You Too Long"", "Try A Little Tenderness" and "Respect", a song Redding wrote which is usually associated with Aretha Franklin.

Posthumous Success
Otis Redding and four members of his backing band, The Bar-Kays, and the pilot died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967. "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay" was released one month after his death and became his first #1 single.
