Guide Note: The 72nd Oscar Awards were presented on March 26, 2000 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. American Beauty was named Best Picture, and major acting awards went to Kevin Spacey, Hilary Swank, Michael Caine and Angelina Jolie. In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, there were numerous problems: four thousand Oscar ballots were lost in the mail and had to be replaced, and 55 Oscar statuettes were stolen and later recovered.
