  • 7:49 PM: Tonight's trends? Tasteful one-shoulder numbers, the color red and Busey.
  • 7:45 PM: Best Actress nominee Marion Cotillard is wearing a white Gaultier creation, and Tilda Swinton appears to have lost a sleeve. (Smell the schadenfreude, kids. Swinton's dress has already been called "a shapeless bolt of fabric designed by the House of Hefty" by The New York Times.)

  • 7:41 PM: Cameron Diaz is wearing a strapless, pink Dior. Her casual ponytail may not get good marks from the fashion police tomorrow, but it's a minimal misstep in an evening full of tasteful choices. Kimora Lee Simmons' unsurprising assessment - not enough bling.

  • 7:35 PM: Jessica Alba, the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world, has arrived. She's wearing a strapless, purple Marchesa with Cartier jewelry and what appear to be feathers across the bodice - very, very expensive feathers.

  • 7:30 PM: Seacrest didn't ask Oscar song presenter Keri Russell what she was wearing. He instead cut to a question from a seven-year old about whether or not you really need to know math. Well, son, if you're attractive, live in LA and can hack it as an actor, the only math you'll need to know is the difference between a bucket full of money and a truckload.
  • 7:29 PM: Seacrest claims to have never met Busey. A likely story.
  • 7:28 PM: Miley Cyrus, who is appearing on the Oscar telecast for no apparent reason, is wearing a classic Valentino look in the color of the night - red.

  • 7:22 PM: There's no other way to say this. Gary Busey just accosted Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet. No one was harmed... yet.

  • 7:11 PM: The "enchanting" Amy Adams (oh yes... get it?) is wearing a green strapless Proenza Schouler dress and old school Lana Turner wave in her hair. Daniel Day-Lewis is lurking in the background, and it doesn't look like he'll be drinking anyone's sartorial milkshake in a tux jacket with brown (?) piping. But, hey, he's an "artiste." It can be excused.

  • 6:59 PM: Anne Hathaway is wearing a one-shoulder, red Marchesa with a collection of rosettes running across the front. She calls it "diaphanous chic." We call it penance for last year's bow dress.

  • 6:46 PM: George Clooney, with girlfriend Sarah Larson in Valentino Couture on his arm, brings the charm yet again. Seacrest loves his hair, but may love Jason Bateman's more. No bold fashion statements from the men as of yet. They're all channeling their inner Cary Grant, and for that, we should all be grateful.
  • 6:42 PM: Best Supporting Actor nominee Tom Wilkinson has arrived. Fashion-wise, what have we learned? Not much. Seacrest has probed to discover that Wilkinson likes Friends, and everyone in Hollywood has a man-crush on Clooney.
  • 6:31 PM: Best Supporting Actress Nominee Amy Ryan is wearing a one-shoulder, navy blue Calvin Klein. And, umm..., Ryan Seacrest just made her mock hit him? E!'s coverage has taken a confusing turn with sound effects and a box full of props.

  • 6:26 PM: Heidi Klum and Seal have arrived. Klum is wearing a red Galliano, which will be auctioned off following the ceremony to raise money for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Seal is wearing a traditional Dior tux, but he ditched the bow tie to go with a skinny mod number.

  • 6:09 PM: The Red Carpet Arrival coverage has begun, and well, E! is stalling until someone arrives. We have learned, however, through a pre-recorded segment that host Jon Stewart will be wearing Armani. Would a man in his position wear anything else? Of course not.
  • 5 PM: The Red Carpet Arrivals begin in less than an hour! While we're sure to see a number of tasteful (and innocuous) fashion choices this year, every media outlet in America is hoping that someone fired their stylist just in time to make a Björk-sized sartorial mistake. Will old Hollywood glam or the fashion avant-garde rule the day? We'll just have to wait and see.
