A 7.0 earthquake struck off the coast of New Zealand on September 29, 2008. No tsunami warning was issued. In December of 2007, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook the north island of New Zealand.

1. Considerable property damage in the city of Gisborne
2. No serious injuries reported
3. No Tsunami warning issued
4. Hit at 8:55pm local time
5. About 200 miles south of Auckland
6. Largest NZ earthquake in 20 years
