Mr Driller Online takes the very popular Mr Driller series and puts it on the Xbox 360, and the game is only available through Xbox Live. Initially, Mr Driller Online was intended to be the third installment in the Dig Dug series, however, Namco executives like the game as it was presented and decided to create Mr Driller as is.

Mr Driller Online is a puzzle video game featuring a driller who ventures through several different lands. The driller is chosen from a list of different characters and you, also, get to choose where you would like to start drilling. The goal is to drill as far as possible without losing all of your oxygen or getting hit by a falling block. Dig Dug was incorporated into the Mr Driller storyline. Taizo Hori is the father of hero Susumu Hori, and he is the star of Dig Dug, considered a legendary Driller and chairman of the Driller Council.

A player starts at the top of the world and drills downward. About every second, a player loses one percent of oxygen. When the oxygen meter reaches thirty percent, a warning is issued until a player dies, or when a player earns an oxygen capsule, which gives a player at least twenty percent. Blocks have different qualities: a normal, light-colored block has no additional damage, but the brown "X" blocks, when drilled, cost a player fifteen percent oxygen. A player can drill to where blocks fall onto like-colored blocks. Any time four blocks of the same color are connected, it is automatically eliminated. The goal is to drill to the bottom without losing all your lives.
