Miami Arena Implosion Video
More than 100 pounds of explosives were used to implode the Miami Arena in the early hours of September 21, 2008. The explosion brought the roof of the structure down but many parts of the walls were still standing.1
At one time, Miami arena had hosted the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Florida Panthers and the University of Miami basketball team.2 The Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team was the last team to use the stadium but left the stadium for the BankUnited Center in 2003. Because the arena could not attract and retain sports teams and it had a bright pink exterior, it was nicknamed the "pink elephant."3
