Mass Effect SecuROM Removal
Mass Effect is a sci-fi RPG originally released for Xbox 360 on November 20, 2007. The converted PC version of the game is scheduled for release on May 28, 2008 with new content and improved graphics. Previously, BioWare had the SecuROM which would require players to validate their game every ten days to protect against people who have downloaded the game illegally. Due to overwhelming complaints, BioWare has changed the authentication process to a one-time only affair when the game is first booted, however SecuROM is still installed.

SecuROM Information
There has been a greater push in the gaming industry to protect against illegal downloads and initially Mass Effect as well as other popular upcoming releases such as Spore were to utilize SecuROM. This security has come with high criticism. The problem with using this particular means of validation is that it requires people to have internet access even for the single-player option. This is a problem as some people do not have constant internet access in order to revalidate their game. If the game is not validated every ten days, then the user cannot play. Other problems involving SecuROM is that it self-installs and can potentially be transformed into anything Sony chooses as it has administrator level access to your computer. If a user also runs a driver level program or certain prohibitive software, SecuROM will also prevent Mass Effect from running. Many gamers view SecuROM as a form of malware as it can also monitor your devices and software.
SecuROM Removal
You can remove secuROM from your computer, however if you play the same protected game or other protected game it will reinstall. If you have already uninstalled the game and are looking to remove secuROM, you must make sure that none of your other games use this program. Uninstallation varies depending on your PC and OS. The files are located in hidden folders.
