Martha Beck

Guide Note:

Martha Beck is a therapist and an author. She married John Beck in 1983. Beck attended Harvard University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies, a Master's Degree and Ph.D in Sociology.

Martha Beck was raised as a Mormon by her parents and in 2005 she publicly accused her father of sexually abusing her when was a child. Beck wrote about her experiences as a Mormon in her book Leaving the Saints: How I Lost the Mormons and Found My Faith.

Beck divorced her husband in 2004, announcing to the public that her and her ex husband were both homosexuals. Their first book together Breaking the Cycle of Compulsive Behavior, about overcoming homosexuality was still being sold in stores.

Martha Beck currently lives in Arizona and is an author in a monthly column for O Magazine.
