Kyle Sampson was the chief of staff for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. He resigned on March 12, 2007, in the midst of the U.S. Attorney controversy.¹

According to a report released by the U.S. Department of Justice on July 28, 2008, Sampson and other former aides to Alberto Gonzales violated federal laws by allowing their personal politics to influence hiring decisions. It was revealed that the majority of candidates Sampson considered for immigration judge positions were explicitly recommended by top White House officials.³
