Open source, content management system Joomla is a publisher that features caching, RSS feeds, news flashes and many other features. It allows a person to easily upload content to a web server without knowing any languages such as HTML or PHP. It is licensed under the GPL free software license and is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database.

History

Joomla was founded by the Mambo Software Foundation Incorporated in 2005. It was originally titled OpenSourceMatters, which main goal was to distribute information to web developers and other users. On September 1, 2005, the project was renamed to Joomla, meaning "as a whole". The first public release of the software was later that month on September 16, 2005.
