Professional hockey center Jim Dowd has played in the National Hockey League since 1992. Dowd spent the 2007-08 season with the Philadelphia Flyers, but was released by the team before the 2008-09 season.

Early Career
Dowd was drafted by his hometown team, the New Jersey Devils, during the 1987 NHL entry draft, but would not make his NHL debut until March of 1992. He played another single NHL game with the Devils the following season.
During the 1993-94 season, Dowd played 15 regular season and 19 playoff games for the Devils. A shoulder injury and subsequent surgery caused Dowd to miss 35 games the following season, but he recovered in time to score the winning goal in the second game of the 1995 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Devils went on to win the cup.
Bouncing Around
Dowd was traded to the Vancouver Canucks for the 1995-96 season, and was acquired on waivers by the New York Islanders for the 1996-97 season, but he only played three games as an Islander.
Up for free agency, Dowd signed with the Calgary Flames is the summer of 1997 and was traded to the Nashville Predators the following season. Less than six months later, Nashville traded him to the Edmonton Oilers.
In 2000, the Minnesota Wild acquired Dowd in the expansion draft, where he remained for the better part of four seasons and recorded a career high of 43 points in the 2001-02 season. Near the end of the 2003-04 season, Dowd was traded to the Montreal Canadiens. He only played 14 games for Montreal before signing with the Chicago Blackhawks in the summer of 2005.
In February of 2006, Dowd was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He finished off the season in Colorado before returning to his hometown to play for the New Jersey Devils for the 2006-07 season. The Devils did not offer him a contract, so he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2007-08 season.
