Jeremy Roenick

Jeremy Roenick is a veteran professional hockey player. He retired as an active player following the 2006-07 season, then resurfaced with the San Jose Sharks at the beginning of the 2007-08 season.

Early Career

Roenick was drafted right out of high school by the Chicago Blackhawks, eighth overall in the 1988 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut the following year, playing 20 games his first season. In 1991, Roenick was selected for his first of nine NHL All-Star Game appearances. The next year he helped the Blackhawks reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins. After eight seasons in Chicago, Roenick was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes on August 16, 1996. He led the Coyotes for five seasons before entering free agency in 2001. On July 1, 2001, Roenick signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Recent Years

Roenick did not play during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout, then was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on August 4, 2005. Exactly 11 months later he signed as a free agent with the Coyotes. It was reported in July of 2007 that Roenick had announced his retirement to the press via text message. This turned out to be false as he later signed with the San Jose Sharks on September 4, 2007.
