Jennifer Garner Ears Pierced
When they were growing up, Jennifer Garner and her sisters, Melissa and Susannah, had a very strict home life. Many of the things often taken for granted by other teenage girls were forbidden to the Garner sisters. They were not allowed to go to see movies or wear make-up, and were told by their parents that they had to wait until they were at least 16 before they would be allowed to have their ears pierced.
Susannah, the youngest of the three sisters, rebelled and had her ears pierced without her parent's permission when she was 14. Melissa, the oldest of the three, waited until she was 16 before she pierced her ears. Jennifer did not get her ears pierced when she was 16, and did not have them pierced until she was 27.
In 1999, Jennifer had her ears pierced for the very first time specially for her role as Diane Agostini in the TV movie Aftershock: Earthquake in New York. This was required because a key part of her costume was a pair of diamond stud earrings, a gift from her father, which Diane wears and then loses shortly after her father's death. However, after filming was completed, she stopped wearing pierced earrings and allowed the holes in her earlobes to heal up. From the end of 1999 until the end of 2005, Jennifer's ears were unpierced, and she was only able to wear clip-on earrings.
At the start of 2006, Jennifer had her ears re-pierced specially for the $250,000 diamond chandelier-style earrings she wore to the 2006 Oscars. Because these were designed specifically for pierced ears, Jennifer had to pierce her ears in order to wear them to the ceremony. Following the Oscars, Jennifer continued to wear pierced earrings for a short while, before once again allowing the holes in her lobes to close and heal.
