Political Career

After serving as a township trustee, Schmidt was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000. There, she served on several committees including Banking, Pensions and Securities, Finance and Appropriations, Human Services and Aging, and Public Utilities. In 2005 she was elected to Congress.

Positions

Schmidt is pro-life and in 2005 became chairman of the Right to Life organization of Greater Cincinnati. A supporter of the Iraq war, she stirred controversy during a 2005 speech in which she said "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
