Jayson Williams
Jayson Williams is a former professional basketball player. He is most notoriously famous for being a suspect in the shooting death of his former limousine driver in 2002. Williams was a standout basketball player in college at St. John's University, and was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draft. He also played for the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets. Following his retirement in 1999 as an active player, Williams served as a studio analyst for NBC Sports coverage of the NBA. On February 14, 2002, his driver, Costas Christofi, was killed by a shotgun owned by Williams. Williams was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter, aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault, evidence tampering, witness tampering, hindering apprehension and fabricating evidence. In April of 2004, he was acquitted of the aggravated manslaughter charge, but the jury in the trial deadlocked on the reckless manslaughter charge. He is currently awaiting re-trial.
