James Brian Sliter
James Brian Sliter is a registered sex offender who is running for mayor of Wilmer, Texas. He was arrested in 2004 for arranging to have sex online with someone whom he believed was a 15 year old girl. When he arrived for the rendezvous, the police were waiting to arrest him. He was not convicted however, instead given deferred adjudication. He was put on 10 years probation in 2006. This has allowed him to run for public office. He is asking for people to give him the chance to prove he can be of service to the community. Detractors are afraid that the election of a sex offender to the position of mayor will leave the town with a stigma. The election in Wilmer takes place on May 10th.
