On the March 11, 2008 episode of American Idol, contestant David Hernandez sang The Beatles song, "I Saw Her Standing There". The performance was not well received by any of the judges, who agreed that it felt "overdone."
Hernandez's performance was preceded by a video segment in which he spoke about growing up in Glendale, Arizona (the same hometown of Jordin Sparks). In the segment, Hernandez mentioned that he took a class on The Beatles in college.

Judges' Comments
- Randy: Said that Hernandez has a big voice and can sing, but on a song like this it was overdone. Jackson was "lost from the jump" because there was too much going on with it.
- Paula: Felt Hernandez overdid it as well and that he needed to scale back.
- Simon: Said, "no, no, no." He also said the performance was "Corny and verging on desperate" and "A bit rabbit in the headlights." Cowell didn't feel it was a particularly strong performance.
