Though makeshift Skype and Jajah workarounds can be found for the iPhone, no true iPhone VoIP application existed until Truphone announced they would release one in the fall of 2007. Since then, other services for the popular phone have emerged.

In September of 2008, German courts decided to ban the iPhone VoIP program Sipgate, claiming it encouraged users to hack their iPhone and break the T-Mobile terms of service.1
