Team History
The Houston Texans joined the NFL as an expansion team in 2002. Houston's previous team, the |Oilers, moved to Tennessee in 1997 and changed their name to the Titans in 1999.1
The Texans began their first season in 2002. They finished with a record of 4-12 their first year, typical for an expansion team. In 2003, they improved to five wins, followed by 7 wins in 2004. However, the team went backwards in 2005, finishing with a record of 2-14.1
In 2006, the Texans drafted Mario Williams with the number one overall pick. Williams improved the Texans' defense and helped the team to finish 6-10 in 2006 and 8-8 in 2007.1
