Google Suggest
The Google Suggest system will attempt to "guess" a user's intended Google search query as it is being typed, in real time. The system, originally available as a feature in the Google Labs database of experimental programs, is designed to prevent spelling errors in searches (suggesting final words based on word fragments) and to "suggest" potential queries that could be fruitful. For example, a search for "pizza" will bring back the suggestions "Pizza Hut," "pizza dough" and "pizza recipe."

20% Time
At Google, engineers are given what is known as "20% time." This means that 20% of their time at the job can be devoted on "alternative" or side projects on the website that interest them specifically. Google Suggest is a system that was originally developed as one of these 20% projects, along with AdSense for Content and Orkut.3
