God of War is a series of action adventure video games for the Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Sony PSP. The story focuses on Kratos, who agreed to be Ares servant in return for sparing his life during a lost battle. Ares grants Kratos powers, via the Blades of Chaos and commands him to build an army and conquer Greece. After a period of loyal service, Ares instructs Kratos to attack a village loyal to Athena. Kratos obeys and massacres all inhabitants only to find out he was tricked into murdering his own family. The duration of the game the player controls Kratos as he pleads with the other guides in an attempt to correct his sins in addition to getting revenge on Ares. The original God of War received universal critical acclaim including over 10 Game of the Year awards and IGN's best Playstation 2 action game of all time. The third installment of the series, God of War 3 is one of the most highly anticipated releases for the Playstation 3 and is expected some time in 2009.
