Girija Prasad Koirala

Girija Prasad Koirala is the current Prime Minister and acting head of state for Nepal. Koirala's current term is his non-consecutive fourth as Prime Minster. He leads the reformist Nepali Congress party which recently lost majority control in the parliament after the 2008 general elections. He has receded somewhat from the political world because of increasing health problems.

2008 Elections

In the 2008 elections, Koirala's Nepali Congress lost their long-standing majority control of the Nepali congress. They now hold only 110 out of the 575 possible seats. The current majority leader is Prachanda's Commmunist Party of Nepal (Maoist), which holds 220 seats.¹
