Flavor Extracts are concentrated flavorings used in Cakes, Cookies, Ice Cream and Puddings. There are many different types of flavor extracts with Vanilla being a very popular and widely used choice. Vanilla extract has been available for over 100 years. Flavor extracts can be purchased or you can make your own.

To get a stronger flavor extract use a higher proof alcohol. Vodka usually giving the highest alcohol content for making vanilla extract. Brandy will add an additional flavor to but some people might not like the taste. The use of corn syrup or sugar will help develop the flavor from the vanilla pods. When making vanilla extract if you use a variety of vanilla pods it will provide a more complex flavor and aroma.
