Film Noir is the term used to describe the style of 1940's and 1950's Hollywood crime dramas, shot in a low-key style. The term "Film Noir" literally means "black film", lending itself to the black and white films that were made during the depression era in the United State. Classic films shot in the Film Noir style include, The Maltese Falcon, Shadow of a Doubt , Laura, and The Hitch-Hiker. Film Noir can best visually described through its use of objects such as, window blinds, or banisters to cast shadows on the actors.
