NFL Career
Eric Smith was drafted by the New York Jets in 2006. In his rookie year, Smith played in 15 games and recorded 27 tackles and two interceptions. In 2007, he started in four games and racked up 40 total tackles.1
In a game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 28, 2008, Smith landed a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin. Boldin had to be carted off the field and checked at a local hospital. Smith also briefly lost consciousness. Smith was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game for the illegal hit.2
