Guide Note
Elizabeth Edwards is an attorney and author. She is the wife of former 2008 Presidential Election candidate John Edwards. She retired from her law career in 1996 after the death of their son. She has taught legal writing at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and filled in as a substitute teacher for Wake County public schools. She is the author of the 2007 book Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers which focuses on the death of her son and finding out she has Breast Cancer.

John Edwards' Affair
An alleged affair between Elizabeth Edwards' husband John Edwards and Rielle Hunter was first reported in October 2007 by the National Enquirer. While initially denying the allegations, John Edwards came forward to admit the affair in August 2008. However, he still denies that he is the father of Hunter's child.
Breast Cancer
On November 3, 2004, Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was treated and in November of 2006 her doctor, Dr. Lisa Carey told her that she didn't have cancer anymore. On March 22, 2007 it was announced at a press conference that her cancer had returned. Dr. Carey said that the cancer is not curable but is treatable.
