Deval Patrick is the current Democratic governor of Massachusetts. He succeeded one-time Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and is the first African American governor in Massachusetts.
Patrick is the second elected African American governor in U.S. history following Douglas Wilder of Virginia. Patrick is also the son of musician Pat Patrick, who played with Sun Ra, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane.1

Obama Plagiarism Scandal
During the 2008 presidential primaries, Senator Hillary Clinton attacked Barack Obama for plagiarizing a line from a speech Patrick gave in 2006. Patrick refuted Clinton's claim, stating that he asked Obama to share the words he had used.2
